Frequently Asked Questions
How do I knock in my cricket bat?
When you’re knocking in a new cricket bat, the goal is to try and replicate the kind of strikes the bat is likely to experience throughout an innings. Using a mallet, gently strike the face of the bat and slowly ramp up the strength of each hit, before focusing on the edges of the bat. When done correctly, knocking in a bat compresses the willow without causing damage, thereby improving the strength and resilience of the bat.
Is oiling necessary for a cricket bat?
If you choose a bat with a natural (or uncovered) face, it’s crucial that you treat it every so often. Kookaburra themselves recommend applying either raw linseed oil or dedicated cricket bat oil.
Which Kookaburra senior cricket bat is right for me?
Unsure which model to go for? Don’t worry, we’ve all been there - with so many different designs to choose from, selecting the right bat is easier said than done. If you’d like a helping hand, feel free to get in touch with our team, who can help point you in the right direction.
How important is bat grade?
The lower a bat is graded, the higher the quality of the willow used to create it. Lower-grade bats not only look more pleasing to the eye in many cases, but they have straighter grains and fewer imperfections, making them more consistent and powerful out on the pitch.
