Where (and When) to Watch Cricket Live in 2025

Cricket is a sport that never ceases to entertain. Even when the domestic cricket season ends here in the UK, there’s always something happening elsewhere. We’ve already seen the T20 and one-day international series play out in January and February, while the ICC Champions Trophy wrapped up on 1 March.

But there’s no substitute for watching live cricket at your local venue, is there? There’s something about the atmosphere – the buzz – of a live sporting event that makes the experience all the more satisfying and memorable. Watching on TV is one thing, but seeing a match unfold with your own eyes is quite another.

If you’re itching to get back to watching live cricket, there’s no time like the present to start populating your calendar. The 2025 UK cricket season is almost upon us, and in this blog, we’re going to run through some of the key dates you need to know about.

How to watch cricket live this year: key dates for your diary

April

April is where the UK’s cricket season really begins, and the Rothesay County Championship is the first major series to get started on Friday 4 April. The County Championship has been a mainstay of the national cricket season for more than a century, with the first running of the event taking place all the way back in 1890.

The event pits 18 different teams against each other, with Surrey taking the overall crown last year. Will they be able to defend their title and take home a 24th title? We can’t wait to find out.

Later in April, the Metro Bank One Day Cup women’s competition gets underway. Saturday 19 April is when league two starts, with the main competition taking place on Wednesday 23 April.

May

Another exciting month for British cricket. Monday 5 May sees the beginning of the Vitality T20 Women’s County Cup, with the finals taking place on Monday 26. 2025 is to be the inaugural year for the Cup, which pits 37 teams from across the country against each other in a knockout-style format.

Whichever teams emerge victorious in Round One will progress to Round Two (played on Saturday 10 May). Next up is round three on 17 May, followed by the quarter finals (24 May) and the finals on 26 May, which will be hosted by the Cooper Associate County Ground in Taunton.

Towards the end of the month, another Vitality-sponsored T20 tournament gets underway – the Blast. Now in its 22nd year, the Blast begins on 29 May at the world-famous Lord’s cricket ground, with Middlesex and the Sussex Sharks being the first teams to take to the pitch.

June

A further two rounds of the Rothesay County Championship will be held in June. Round 9 runs from Sunday 22 to Wednesday 25, while Round 10 begins on Sunday 29 June and wraps up on Wednesday 2 July. Most of the venues have already been confirmed for these summer matches – check out the ECB’s full list of fixtures to find out more.

July

Two more rounds of the Rothesay County Championship take place in July, along with the final group stage clashes for the Vitality Blast men’s and women’s contests. You can find out which teams will progress to the quarter finals on Friday 18 July.

Saturday 26 sees the (no doubt) dramatic conclusion of the Vitality Blast women’s league two competition, with Northampton’s Country Ground being the venue of choice. The following day, the overall women’s competition wraps up at the Kia Oval.

August

As summer nears its conclusion, the Metro Bank One Day cup is just getting started. The men’s competition begins on Tuesday 5 August, with the quarter and semi-finals taking place on 28 and 31 August respectively.

The Hundred also gets underway this month. The action-packed 100-ball men’s and women’s tournaments begin at Lord’s on Tuesday 5 August, with the finals of both competitions set for 31 August – again at Lord’s.

September

Wow, what a packed month this is. Starting on 3 September are the finals for the Vitality Blast men’s competition, which wrap up on 6 September – the same day as the semi-finals for the Metro Bank One Day Cup women’s league two contest.

A further three rounds of the Rothesay County Championship take place on Monday 8 September, and the Vitality Blast men’s competition wraps up the following Saturday (13 September).

The next day, it’s the Metro Bank One Day Cup women’s league two final, while the overall semi-finals are held on Wednesday 17.  The men’s overall final is to be held at Trent Bridge on 20 September, while the women’s final takes place the following day at the Utilita Bowl.

Finally, on 24 September, the domestic cricket season wraps up with the conclusion of the Rothesay County Championship.
